Addictological Clinic – a new service for university students and employees

The Addictological Clinic is a clinical department of the Centre for Addictology. It primarily serves university students and employees whose health and social situation is currently or developmentally endangered by drug use issues and non-substance addictions. The outpatient addictological clinic is on the premises of the Centre for Addictology at the Psychiatric Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague.

International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE) and World Health Organisation (WHO) - ISAJE/WHO YOUNG SCHOLARS AWARD 2008

The award scheme aims to provide recognition for the contributions to addiction science of young scholars from developing countries and to promote their involvement in the field. The award is for the best published paper on any topic related to addiction written by a young scholar from a low- or middle-income country. The successful applicant will receive a certificate and financial support to attend an international scientific or clinical meeting, to be chosen by the winner in consultation with ISAJE.

Tobacco harm reduction: an alternative cessation strategy for inveterate smokers

This report provides a description of traditional and modern smokeless tobacco products, and of the prevalence of their use in the United States and Sweden. It reviews the epidemiologic evidence for low health risks associated with smokeless use, both in absolute terms and in comparison to the much higher risks of smoking. The report also describes evidence that smokeless tobacco has served as an effective substitute for cigarettes among Swedish men, who consequently have among the lowest smoking-related mortality rates in the developed world. The report documents the fact that extensive misinformation about ST products is widely available from ostensibly reputable sources, including governmental health agencies and major health organizations.

Warning - fake ecstasy being seized in Upper Austria, close to Czech borders

mCPP, sold as fake ecstasy, was seized close to Czech borders. mCPP after ingestion creates effects similar to ecstasy, but after few tens minutes, very unpleasant states arrive at the user. Moreover, when used with real ecstasy (MDMA) and some other substances, dramatic clonic spasms can apper at the user.
