Development of a life-long education in Addictology

Addictology has been established as independent, inter-disciplinary scientific, study and clinical discipline aiming to study and develop evidence-based measures and interventions to prevent, minimize and/or eliminate various forms of risky behaviours that might potentially lead to an acquirement of dependence. In 2005 pre-gradual full-time Bachelor level study course in Addictology started preparing future workers in areas of prevention, risk minimization and/or treatment of users of mind-altering substance who might suffer in consequence of various forms of dependent behaviour. This stimulated demand for part-time form of such study course as well as for further education in the field of drugs. Thus, in August 2006 Centre for Addictology submitted to the Czech Ministry of Education an application for accreditation of a part-time form of the study course. System of a life-long education including definition of professional requirements for workers in drugs field (at various levels of expertise and competence) is however still missing. Project aims to solve this absence while taking following steps: - to elaborate proposal of personal standards and career structure for workers in the field; - to analyze ‚Catalogue of professions‘ and to elaborate a proposal how to involve professionals in addictology; - to elaborate proposal of a modules-based training curricula for life-long education of workers in the field.
