Czech prime minister Petr Nečas expressed his support for the report presented by the Global Commission on Drug Policy

"I consider the report by the Global Commission on Drug Policy to be an important challenge by the heads of state and politicians who have signed it," claimed Petr Nečas, the prime minister of the Government of the Czech Republic. His statement was published by the Office of the Government as a part of the national drug coordinator`s press release.

The entering of the second five-year period of our Centre’s activities was marked by the sustained pace of our work. Some of the plans for the year 2010 I mentioned at the conclusion of the last year’s report may have appeared rather bold. Today I can say that every little thing has been accomplished, although it was a truly demanding year in all respects.

The five Reports on activities show that we have completed the first childhood period of creating an institution that can no longer be considered as a novice. In our report last year, I described the difficult fourth year, but today we can happily say that managing to fulfil the tasks and overcome the past problems has helped to move the Centre forward and open up new and different problems.

Politicians are campaigning against drug users when they have nothing to offer

Tomas Zabransky, Head for Research and Development of the Centre for Addictology, and Jakub Frydrych, head of the National Drug Squad, participated in a radio programme discussing political aims to remove drug use and drug users from local neighbourhoods. Politicians are responding to the drug problem in an ineffective way, despite the number of drug users in the Czech Republic not rising and their removal from city centres being ineffective and almost impossible.
