In years 1998 – 2003 I studied Master’s degree programme of clinical psychology at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University where I defended my graduation thesis “Perception of Methadone Substitution in Patients’ Personality in the Light of Early Memories”. In 2004 I started postgraduate study of clinical psychology at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Palacky University. As the theme of my PhD dissertation I chose needs assessment of clients of low-threshold programmes in Prague especially because this theme was new and was not widespread in the Czech Republic. The aim of my thesis is above all to point out the potential of needs assessment and introduce this method to service providers in the Czech Republic.

Regarding clinical education, in years 2002-2006 I completed a psychotherapeutic training in Gestalt psychotherapy organized by Institut Dialog (590 hours) and individual psychotherapy in Gestalt psychotherapy (50 hours). I also attended some short-term courses, e.g. 100-hour training in using Rorschach method, training in research in the addiction field focused on treatment evaluation and a half-year term course focused on statistical analysis.


Professional Experience

In years 2003 – 06/2005 I worked in the National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (National Focal Point) where I was responsible for treatment data monitoring, monitoring of drug use in ethnic minorities and evaluation of drug services.  I also engaged in themes such as ethical aspects of drug research, psychiatric comorbidity of patients treated for drug addiction, providing of outpatient psychiatric treatment for drug users and treatment demand in connection with cannabis use. Since 2005 I have been working in the Centre for Addictology (at Psychiatric Clinic, 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University) where I teach bachelor and master’s programme students of addiction studies and do research in the addiction field.

In years 2005 – 2006 I was the principal investigator of  “Development of bachelor studies of addiction” project that was financed by European Social Fund (JPD3, 3.1 programme). In years 2009 – 2010 I was the principal investigator of “Addictive substance use in children and adolescents from ethnic minorities and socially excluded areas with an emphasis on  transfer of experience on preventive and research methods from Norwegian partners’ project financed by Norway Funds. I also cooperated on some research projects where I was responsible for analysis and processing of data. Among the most important I consider EUDAP 2 (European Drug Addiction Prevention Trial): Development and Verification of Evaluation Methodology of Primary Prevention Programmes through Longitudinal Quazi-Experimental Study, Evaluation of Primary Prevention Community Programme” (Prev-Centrum) (GACR, No. 406/04/P250) and Impact of Psychosocial Factors and Setting on Acute and Long-Term Effect of Cannabis Use from the Perspective of Psychiatric, Psychological and Social Risks (GACR Grant No. 406/02/1449A).

Within bachelor and master study programme of Addictology I teach students: evaluation of drug services, research practicum, principles of academic writing, developmental psychopathology and case management – diagnostics and methodology of  research in the addiction field.

Since 2003 I have been a member of editorial board of the Adiktologie journal. Since 2006 I have been a member of Association for Addictive Diseases, Czech Medical Association of J.E. Purkyně. Since 2003 I have published articles in academic journals and I am the author or co-author of 45 peer reviewed publications. Since 2004 I have also attended academic conferences, workshops and courses.


Areas of Scientific Interest

Research methodology, statistical data analysis, qualitative analysis, evaluation (effectiveness of primary prevention programmes), treatment of drug users, cannabis use, drug use in ethnic minorities, diagnostics and psychodiagnostics, prevention and treatment of drug use in pregnancy and drug use of mothers.
