Oral application is one of the least hazardous ways to take drugs. A gelatine capsule represents an effective form of harm reduction. The objective of this article is to present oral application with a gelatine capsule to the professional community and describe the experience of drug-using clients who administer drugs using gelatine capsules.
The Charáč Drop-In Centre in Uherské Hradištì was one of the first programmes to begin offering capsules to its clients. These capsules have been distributed since June 2007. This article was written as part of a qualitative research project which uses semi-structured interviews to look into clients’ personal experience with this route of administration. The semi-structured interviews were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Seven clients have taken part in this research so far. The staff of the Charáč Drop-In Centre have also carried out a random survey by means of a structured interview administered to clients involved in an exchange programme who showed interest in the capsules. The capsule users were asked about the size of the dose, the intensity of the effect, and the reasons which led them to oral application. Involving 49 clients of the Charáè Drop-In Centre, this random survey was held from the second half of 2007 to March 2009.
